Today’s link is extremely long. It’s also incredible, so however long it takes to get through it, I encourage you to take the time. The piece is full of terrific musings on journalistic integrity and fascinating, if unfortunate, stories of the author’s time in the newsroom. In the end, though, what stood out most to me wasn’t a line the author wrote, but a quote he included from Walter Lippmann: “In truly effective thinking, the prime necessity is to liquidate judgments, regain an innocent eye, disentangle feelings, be curious and open-hearted.” I don’t know how to follow that except to say those are truly words to live by.
