Former president Donald Trump recently suffered a couple significant setbacks in his legal defenses. In a ruling in his federal election interference case on Friday, Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled Trump doesn’t have immunity from criminal prosecution. That same day, in a civil case brought by several Capitol police officers and Democratic members of Congress, the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled Trump doesn’t have immunity from civil prosecution for the January 6 storming of the Capitol. The former president can and likely will appeal both decisions.
