There’s a lot of handwringing going on in certain segments of the commentariat over former President Trump’s poll numbers in a match up against President Biden. Joe Scarborough was opining this morning that a portion of the electorate just wants a dictator. Adam Schiff (D-CA) was on MSNBC Sunday predicting Trump would never leave office should he win. The Atlantic is dedicating the bulk of its next issue to what a Trump second term would look like (bleak appears to be the general takeaway).

I do my best not to highlight alarmism like this because so often it never comes to pass. The reason I mention it today is so it can be contrasted with the reason and restraint exhibited in our featured column. Read the link, written by someone deeply uninterested in a Trump second term, then go back and read the wild prognostications above. Between the two, which seems more likely to attract swing voters? Which seems more sober-minded, as in, “Gee, swing voters sure do like the more sober-minded party”? There are plenty of arguments to make against Trump without resorting to theatrics. If Democratic party leaders and pundits don’t figure that out soon, it’s going to cost them voters… and quite possibly the White House.
