Today’s link concerns the beating death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five Memphis police officers. I’ve come across a number of columns the past few days making the same argument as this one, but none of them made it quite as well. The premise — that these five officers wouldn’t have beaten a white man to death — might seem incendiary to some, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth considering.

Of course, I encourage everyone to read the link, but in this case I particularly encourage those resistant to its line of thinking. While it’s well-argued, what almost interests me more is that its source — The Wall Street Journal — isn’t a publication I’d typically associate with this subject. Hopefully, that helps its argument reach across party lines. After all, what’s the point of commentary if it doesn’t lead to discussion and, eventually, change?
