The past few months, I’ve seen commentators on the left ask the same question over and over: why isn’t Joe Biden getting more credit for our good economy? Some of their answers have been odd (“People don’t realize the economy’s great”), some have been thoughtful (“It takes time for good indicators to have a tangible effect on average Americans”), but none has gotten to the core of the issue, which is inflation. Even when inflation is addressed, the focus is on the wrong elements. Today’s columnist rights that wrong, and pundits on the left would do well to take note. If they don’t, they’re going to have the answer to another question they keep asking: how could anyone vote for Donald Trump?
