After Donald Trump’s CNN town hall in June, I resolved that, unless absolutely necessary, I wouldn’t link to stories about him anymore. Part of this came down to exhaustion with his behavior, but part of it also came down to exhaustion with reactions to his behavior. The commentary was all some form of, “Can you believe what he said?!” After seven years, I can, and I don’t believe we benefit from asking that question any longer.

All this is to say, it would take something huge for me to refocus my attention on the former president, and if you’ve been following this site the past few days, you’ve probably noticed a federal indictment fits the bill. Our past two links on the matter were from writers in the firmly anti-Trump camp, though it should be noted one of the columnists was conservative and one was liberal. Today’s link is from someone who has defended Trump regularly in the past. His column is nuanced, his conclusions (which aren’t terribly conclusive, and that’s alright) drawn from both his political observations and legal expertise. That should make what he has to say of interest to everyone — Trump’s supporters, Trump’s detractors, and Trump himself. For once, the former president might be left speechless.
