Half our readership (Democrats) will be thrilled with today’s choice of writer. The other half will not. We encourage that other half to forge ahead anyway, and we’ll give three reasons why.

Reason Number One: We posted a disproportionate number of columns from the right last week. In keeping with our mission to present the best thinking from both sides, it’s time for the pendulum to swing. 

Reason Number Two: Today’s piece was featured on a website founded by conservatives. They wouldn’t have featured it if they didn’t think there was value in it, so take heart.

Reason Number Three: This being Juneteenth, the writer highlights flaws he sees when it comes to race in our country. Whether one agrees with him or not, he mentions them in the hopes of remedying them. His goal is to improve the country, same as those who take issue with him. That should be the starting point of any conversation surrounding this piece, and it should be the end point, too. We hope everyone, Democrat and Republican alike, keeps that in mind as they read.
