Yesterday, I mentioned hoping to post a column on the recently announced House impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s role in Hunter Biden’s business dealings. Specifically, I wanted to find one from the right laying out an unheated rationale for the move. Because this is a big move, and the onus is on House Republicans to prove why the country is likely headed toward its third impeachment in fewer than five years.
The piece I chose to lay out the Republicans’ case is by GW law professor Jonathan Turley. I’ll be honest — Turley’s commentary has become more strident of late, to the point I stopped linking to him. His piece today is a nice return to form, though, and so I’m happy to bring him back. In his column, he lays out five facts he believes necessitate the investigation. In listing the facts, he’s careful to note there’s not yet proof of any crime by President Biden. But he does believe enough smoke exists to entertain the possibility of a fire. One can disagree with him, but he makes a measured case worth considering. In these fractured times — which are likely to become more fractured — that’s all we can ask for.
