Of all the apostates in party politics, Ruy Teixeira might be my favorite. I can’t think of another commentator so thoughtfully and consistently determined to moderate his party’s worst impulses. In this case, that impulse is national Democrats’ seeming antipathy for the working class. For decades, these voters comprised if not the backbone of the party, then at least a few worthwhile organs. No more. The demo currently favors Donald Trump over Joe Biden in a prospective race by a well-outside-the-margin-of-error 14 points. That’s up from a 4-point margin in 2020. How did this happen?

I’ll leave it to Teixeira to lay out the how’s and why’s. Needless to say, though, this is a massive problem for the party and one that will continue to grow if leadership doesn’t adjust its approach. Here’s a small, unsolicited suggestion they can have free of charge: less Bidenomics, more respect. It might not win back the working class voters Democrats have lost, but it could stanch the bleeding… provided they haven’t bled out already.
