When describing One Daily Link to people, I lead off by telling them it’s an endorsement of tone. By that, I mean the columns featured are respectful. Today, though, the column is funny, and we need some actual humor in our politics. The discourse has become so overinflated (apparently we’re at war for the soul of the nation — tell your friends) that it’s a good idea to prick the balloon and let some air out from time to time.

Of course, I wouldn’t have chosen this column if it were only funny. It also has something to say, and that is that it’s time for the country to move on from both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The individual reasons for moving on differ by candidate — Trump is, among other deficiencies, erratic; Biden is, alongside additional drawbacks, aged — but the overall rationale is the same: the country deserves better. And, as the columnist points out, voters are in a position to choose better. Trump is not Republicans’ only choice. Biden– well, Biden is Democrats’ only choice at the moment. But that could change if a credible alternative decides to buck the DNC and throw his or her hat into the ring. I know that’s easier said than done. But with 67% of Democratic voters recently saying they want someone other than Biden as their nominee, the party mandarins would be hard pressed not to let an alternative step forward.

At the moment, it does look like it will be Biden and Trump in 2024. But these things aren’t etched in stone. Voters still get a say. We’ll see how they use their voice.
